Verizon iPhone Will Be Announced On January 11th

It looks like iPhone is finally coming to Verizon. Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Verizon will announce the introduction of Apple’s iPhone at the media event on January 11th.
The largest U.S. wireless carrier will make the long-awaited announcement at an event Tuesday in New York City, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.
WSJ claims that according to their sources, Verizon iPhone will be similar to iPhone 4 but will work on Verizon’s CDMA network.

As we had mentioned earlier, folks at Gizmodo who had leaked videos and photos of iPhone 4 before it was released have not been invited at the event, despite having good relationship with Verizon, which further indicates that the Verizon media event is Apple centric.

http://www.iphonehacks.com/images/09-Oct/iphone-verizon.jpg Here's what's key: We're great friends with Verizon. (Hi guys!) We've worked with them for years, and we've been to like every event they've had over the last three years. We haven't gotten an invite. Which is weird. We've reached out to Verizon to see why, exactly, we weren't invited, but we've gotten no comment yet. (Update: Verizon's official response is a big ol' no comment.)

Meanwhile, All Things Digital reports that Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs is likely to be present for media event:

While the appearance isn't 100 percent assured, sources in position to know tell me that, barring any unforseen circumstances, Jobs will likely join McAdam onstage in New York when he announces the addition of the iPhone to its handset line-up.

It’s going to be a big day for Apple, Morgan Stanley has claimed that Apple could double its market share by simply making the iPhone available on other carriers.

As for Verizon, a study by market intelligence firm Asymco had showed why Verizon needed Apple’s iPhone to battle with At&t.

Verizon iPhone will finally bring an end to AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity and give users in the US the option to choose their network based on the network coverage in their area. It will be interesting to see if we see a price war between AT&T and Verizon. One of the major gripes of AT&T’s iPhone customers has been poor reception and high dropped call rates. We’ve seen in the past that Verizon has attacked AT&T’s network coverage. It will be fascinating to see the carriers fight it out for the iPhone customer. Lets hope it results in reduced prices, better reception and fewer dropped calls.

It is rumored that the CDMA iPhone will be available to the public on February 3rd based on the vacation blackouts that Apple has imposed on its retail stores staff.
