It was great to find out from the iPad 2 teardown that it comes with 512 MB RAM compared to only 256 MB in iPad 1.
We were hoping that the increase in RAM ensures that mobile Safari browser does not refresh the page every time you switch tabs, which is quite an annoying issue in the first generation iPad. The good news is that the increase in RAM appears to have fixed the issue.
Folks at TiPB have published a video, which shows the improvements in the web browsing experience in iPad 2 over iPad 1.
As you can see in the video below, iPad 2 caches the pages that are open in the browser tabs unlike iPad 1, which refreshes almost half the pages. iPad 2 also seems to redraw the pages a lot faster while scrolling as you don’t see the checkerboard effect that is observed while scrolling web pages in iPad 1.
iPad 2 also comes with Apple's new 1GHz dual-core A5 chip that includes faster GPU, which Apple claims improves graphics performance up to 9 times, should have also helped the performance.
